The producer of the upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has some good news for fans anticipating its Summer 2024 release.

  •  Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will have a physical release alongside digital, meeting fans’ demands for both options.
  •  The remastered version will include new features like the Japanese dub and improved combat and hit detection.
  •  No platforms are confirmed yet, but it’s likely the game will be available on current gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

The producer of the upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has confirmed the game will be getting a physical version alongside a digital release. The remaster of this cult classic Xbox 360 and PS3 hack-and-slash game was originally announced for release in 2023, before it was later delayed to 2024. Dragami Games producer, Yoshimi Yasuda, has been providing fans with steady updates about the progress on Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, including its projected release window of Summer 2024. Yasuda has now confirmed the game won’t be saddled with a digital-only re-release, but a boxed copy as well.

Released in 2012, the original Lollipop Chainsaw was a collaboration between esteemed game director Suda51 from Grasshopper Manufacture and equally esteemed filmmaker and director James Gunn. While the game received mixed reviews at launch, the game has become a cult classic, mainly through its strange premise: 18-year-old cheerleader Juliet Starling’s high-school is attacked by zombies, and players have to use her combat skills and chainsaw to slay them. The game had a physical and digital release when it launched on PS3 and Xbox 360, and its remaster will do the same thing.

According to Yoshimi Yasuda, the developers of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP received a lot of requests from fans regarding a physical release. He confirmed that alongside the digital download version of RePOP, there will be a physical version available for fans to purchase at launch. He notes that the developers are working on making it available for fans worldwide as well.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Is Getting a Physical Version

Currently, no platforms have been announced for the Lollipop Chainsaw remaster, but considering how the game originally launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360, it’s likely that this remaster will be released on current generation PlayStation and Xbox hardware. RePOP could also have a cross-generation debut, similar to another Grasshopper Manufacture developed game, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered. Grasshopper confirmed all the platforms Hella Remastered would release on back in March, which includes both the eighth and ninth generation of consoles.

Yasuda has provided fans with a number of other updates regarding the remaster, such as a new feature regarding Lollipop Chainsaw‘s voice cast. Unlike the original release, this version of the game will have the Japanese dub included, with players also being able to choose the voice for Juliet Starling, Eri Kitamura or Yoko Hikasa, with the choice of voice originally dependent on whether players had the PS3 or Xbox 360 version. Other improvements coming to Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP include improved combat and hit detection, along with enhanced resolution and FPS options.
